This EP came about for a live set in the Neptune Room, Washington DC in July 2025. It was the result of one of two projects over this summer: 1. to make people dance and feel joy during a time of worry about the world, and 2) to create a dystopian cyberscape to reflect my feelings about the world and where it is going.
With more generative AI being used to replace human output, the virtual world feels more than ever like a paranoid hall of smoke and mirrors, where we have to ask the question: what is real? What is AI generated? Does it matter? If we want to discern truth over spectacle, to stand up for what is just, to create an ethics of care for this planet and all its inhabitants, then it does matter. If we want to turn into braindead endlessly entertained consumers then it doesn't.
Same hands, different output. When Ableton Live gets in the way of finishing a track, I build something to fix it and give it away.
Medenine is a composer, producer, and modular synthesist working between nostalgic synthwave and contemporary ambient glitch. The music runs from uptempo, energetic dance to downtempo ambient dub, built around a hands-on hardware studio.
The tools come from the same practice. The records and the software are two outputs of one workflow, both shaped by a love of texture, repetition, and machines pushed slightly past their intent.
